About us

Herbivore Magazine started in the Spring of 2003 with the idea that there was exciting, vital culture coming out of the vegetarian community. Our goal is to map it with humor, sensitivity and passion.

Our focus is on the art, music, humor, fashion, politics, activism and personalities coming out of the loose community of people who choose not to eat animals.

In 2003 we were nominated by Utne Magazine in the Best New Title category for the Utne Independent Press Awards. In 2006 we were nominated in the Best Design category. We have also received press coverage in The Oregonian, KPFK radio in Los Angeles, The Seattle Times, Punk Planet, The L.A. Weekly, Animal Voices radio in Toronto, and public radio in Eugene, Oregon. We also got word from a subscriber that the cover of issue 4 with Dennis Kucinich on the cover appeared on Fox News in Boston. We hate Fox News so thanks for nothing you knuckleheaded warmongers.

2008 will mark our return to a quarterly print format.
